Which Phone is Best for DreamSave?
Overview
DreamSave is designed to function with any smartphone running Android 9 or later, which covers most devices released after 2017.
While Android phone prices continue to fall each year, it's important to recognize that some budget smartphones may be constructed with lower-quality materials. These can lead to hidden costs through more frequent breakages, failures, and a generally frustrating experience for savings groups.
For new DreamSave projects, we highly recommend choosing devices within the “Standard” price range. Although these models require a slightly higher initial investment, they provide a consistently reliable experience for all savings groups. This allows your team to focus on measuring the impact of DreamSave, rather than managing endless phone quality issues.

- Low-End (50- 100 USD)

Selection Criteria
The recommended models above were chosen based on the following criteria:
Screen Quality:
- A high-quality touchscreen is essential for user comfort. Since many group meetings take place outdoors, choose a phone with at least 400 nits of screen brightness for adequate visibility.
Battery Life:
- Prefer models with 5,000 mAh or greater battery capacity, especially where electricity is limited. Lower capacity means more frequent charging is necessary.
Ease of Repair:
- Selected phones are easier to repair (for screens, system issues, etc.).
Storage and RAM:
- All recommended devices offer at least 3GB of RAM and a minimum of 32GB of storage.
Android Support:
- The suggested phones run Android 14 or 15. Devices running Android 12 or 13 can also support DreamSave; however, phones operating on Android 11 or later may function but might not provide an optimal DreamSave experience.
Cost:
- Phones meeting these standards generally cost between 100-$400. Low-end smartphones under $100 are not recommended for project deployments, as they tend to suffer from low build quality, less responsive touchscreens, high failure rates, and poor repair options—leading to greater long-term costs.

Once installed on a device that does not meet the minimum requirements for internal storage or Android version, DreamSave will display a bad phone performance warning.
Additional Tips
- Purchase a case to protect the phone from drops (around 2 USD or higher).
- Apply a tempered glass screen protector (around 3 to 6 USD) to safeguard the display.
- Many smartphones no longer include a charger in the box. If you need to purchase one, ensure it is a high-quality charger from a reputable vendor. Avoid cheap, generic chargers, as they can quickly degrade the phone's battery or even cause permanent damage.
