DreamSave In-App Surveys How-To Guide






Background

DreamStart Labs’ idea for In-App Messages and Surveys came from trying to address social isolation made worse by the global pandemic and economic crisis. Social distancing, savings group disruptions, travel restrictions, and funding cuts left a devastating impact on the connectedness of savings groups and institutions trying to support them. Two new features, In-App Messages and Surveys, enable remote communication and data collection from savings groups using the DreamSave app. 


In-App Surveys allow DreamStart Labs and its partners to send customized “micro-surveys” to groups running the DreamSave app, and return the results to DreamSave Insights.


This document is a detailed “How-To” for sending surveys. 


How to Send Surveys


  1. Log in to DreamSave Insights

  1. Click on the tab labelled "Surveys" on the left-hand side panel of the screen.


          























3.  Click on "Create New Survey" 









4. Log into KoBoToolbox with credentials provided by DreamStart Labs. We have chosen to use KoBoToolbox because of its sophisticated survey-building features.
      

5. Click "New" to create a new project.
       

6. Click "Build from Scratch"
        
 7. Add your questions & survey logic, then Save the survey.
  1. A DreamStart Labs Customer Success Representative would be happy to assist you in creating the survey.
      b. Tip! We highly recommend writing out your survey on a word document before starting the KoBoToolbox survey. And for               the best results, try to ask only 3-5 questions so the survey doesn’t take up too much of the meeting!
8. Deploy the survey
    

9. Click on the deployed survey → Sharing → Settings and Add User
    1. Add a user titled integrator. Sharing the survey with this integrator allows the survey to show up on DreamSave Insights.
                    *Note integrator needs to be lowercase.
10. Tick the box “manage project” to select all the required permissions at once then click on “Grant permissions”
           

11. Return to DreamSave Insights. Click Get New Surveys
           

12. On the survey, select the Survey under Survey Type


13. Select Recipient Type
  1. You can send surveys at the group or member level. If you send a survey to the whole group, the Bookkeeper will read the survey to the group during the Opening Summary. If you send the survey to all or some members, they will receive it during their Savings contribution time.
           

14.  Select Recipients
           

15. Use filters to narrow recipient groups by Country, Project, Facilitator, Group Status, Group Age.
  1. For example, you could send a survey to all Groups in Vietnam by selecting that country. Or you could send it to all Groups in a specific Project in Vietnam.
           

16. If you are sending the survey to Members, you narrow them down by Gender, Age, and Education, or select All Members.
  1. For example, you may send the Survey to all Members in Kenya or Women in Kenya or Women in Kenya who are aged 13-34.
           

17. Confirm the Groups or Members you want to send a survey to
           

18.  View the Survey and its results by clicking on "Survey History"

           

19. Click View More to see statistics in KoBo Toolbox


20. Or Export the data to see an Excel file with the Members, demographic information and savings information correlated to the survey results. 

  
Tip! Groups will only be able to see the survey you send after they have synced their data and started a new meeting. Syncing allows the survey to be transmitted from our databases to their phones. Likewise, you will only receive the survey responses if they choose to answer and sync their data after the meeting.
